Profile of Dr. Jessica Lynn Pereplyotchik and My Power to Overcome

Book Publishing Circle

As I proceed on my own journey towards publishing my first book, I am busy researching authors who have already been published. The folks who have been through this process have much to share. I’m excited to feature the first of several first-time book authors, Dr. Jessica Lynn Pereplyotchik.

Dr. Jessica Pereplyochik and her memoir, My Power to Overcome

Dr. Pereplyotchik, based in Springfield, Massachusetts, earned her doctoral degree in educational psychology in May 2012. She followed up that milestone by publishing her first book, My Power  to Overcome, on January 22, 2013.

My Power to Overcome is a memoir. “I wrote this book to inspire others to find their ‘power to Overcome.’ I wanted to help motivate others to make positive changes in their lives. It took me less than four months to write the book.” noted Dr. Pereplyotchik. After writing the book, she submitted queries to four publishing companies and was selected by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, LLC,  a unique Christian publishing organization that goes through great lengths to describe itself as not a vanity press and not a self-publisher.

As written in Dr. Pereplyotchik’s LinkedIn profile, here is the author’s description of her book:

“It’s not my education or degrees that define me; rather, it is my life experiences. I feel that without living such a rough and difficult life, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I am proud of who I am and the profession that I have chosen. I know that there are several people that I matter to and who are proud of me. I am just a girl from the projects who was born to a crack addict mother who put me through hell growing up. This is the reality of my life.

Dodging social services for years and going hungry for days on end, Jessica Pereplyotchik and her siblings lived a horrible life. With a mother who was addicted to crack and constantly in abusive relationships, they were living in horrible circumstances that they couldn’t control. But Jessica didn’t let that define her.

As a senior in high school, Jessica was determined to graduate and go to college. But when she learns she is pregnant, will all of her dreams fade away? With a newborn daughter and no way to provide for her, Jessica is forced to grow up quickly and get a job, putting her plans for college on hold.

Full of heart-wrenching, eye-opening, and haunting memories, this book will show you one woman’s strength and tenacity to make a life for herself, different from everyone else around her. Dive into this gripping, honest story of one woman’s childhood struggles with abuse, family issues, and teenage motherhood, and don’t miss this inspirational story of a girl who overcame difficult circumstances to make a life for herself.”

A whopping 296 pages long, My Power to Overcome has already made its rounds through several impressive media outlets, including a newspaper interview with The Reminder  and a television appearance on WWLP channel 22 Mass Appeal, a television station based in Chicopee, Massachusetts! You can listen to Dr. Pereplyotchik give tips on overcoming obstacles here.

I wish Dr. Pereplyotchik great success with My Power to Overcome and a very happy birthday today. If you enjoyed reading about Dr. Jessica Lynn Pereplyochik’s inspiring journey to publication, please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

  1. Thank you for this great review on Dr. Jessica Lynn Pereplyotchik!
I like the part where she says it is not her education but her life experience she writes in this book. I do find that people learn so much more from someone who writes their experience rather than text book theories.

This one looks like a Must for a movie!

  2. Amanda,

I 100% agree with her idea that education doesn’t define us. It is our life experiences that make us who we are. Everyone has a choice we can either accept the things that life has “thrown” at us and overcome them or just give up.

I might have a degree in social work, but it doesn’t define me. My family, my experiences and my attitude are what defines me. No matter how terrible things might be in my life I like to remember they always could be worse. Just my opinion of course….
